About us
History
Haus 9 has been a symbol of continuity for over 50 years.
In 1960, large meadows stretched across what was then Talacker and is now Glattpark. It was the vision of farmer Paul Kuhn to build a large commercial property here. Paul Kuhn's heirs drew up a large project that included a hoof-shaped building with an inner courtyard. The project was started by Paul Kuhn's heirs in 1966 and completed with the construction of the first stage as the building at Thurgauerstrasse 107. The second stage, the building at Thurgauerstrasse 109 North, was completed in 1967 by the company E. Kern & Cie. AG and used for the international tea trade.
The third and final stage, the building at Thurgauerstrasse 109 South, was built in 1968 by Schwitter Verlag AG (then still known as Blauenberg AG). Schwitter Verlag AG, with its printing and lithography facilities and over 350 employees, took up residence here.
The property at Thurgauerstrasse 109 has been operated as a double property from the outset, with a shared entrance, stairwell area, toilets and heating system. The property is divided into two parts; the south wing of Schwitter Verlag AG and the north wing of E. Kern & Cie. The ownership of the property has not changed over the last 50 years; Schwitter Verlag AG and E. Kern & Cie. AG are still the landowners of this double property today.
Over the years, the space requirements of the international tea trade and the print shop decreased. Other companies such as Xerox Engineering and Wang Computing moved into the building. In the 1980s, Wang Computing became so strong that the entire building was used by Wang and a huge blue Wang neon sign was installed on the roof. Because of this oversized neon sign, the building became known as the "Wang House".
During this time, the TMC (Textil Mode Center) was built. When Wang Computing reduced its use of space, fashion companies seeking proximity to the TMC moved into the building. Companies such as Bollag SA with the ESPRIT brand or Jucker AG with the Fabiana Fillippi or Valentino brand moved in. When the Wang neon sign was removed in 1990, a more suitable name was sought for the building. Together, Fredy Kern and Mike Schwitter agreed to rename the entire double property at Thurgauerstrasse 109 (then Talackerstrasse 9) "Haus 9" (house 9). It was then divided into Haus 9 Süd and Haus 9 Nord.
As a successful alpinist and expedition leader, Mike Schwitter sought proximity to sports agencies in the early 2000s. He inspired sports retailers to take up residence in Haus 9. Since then, the tenants have developed into a mix of the sports and fashion industries. Twice a year, "Sportsdays" are held, which complement ISPO and offer our tenants a further platform for use.
Building Technology
Haus 9 is a 6-storey office building with outdoor parking spaces and an underground garage. It has air-conditioned rooms, mainly LED lighting, a fire alarm system and both passenger and goods lifts. From 2010, the entire property was fitted with modern insulation and triple glazing, enabling the building to achieve GEAK energy efficiency class C.
Administration
Haus 9 is currently still managed as a dual property by the two landowners Schwitter Verlag AG and E. Kern & Cie. AG. Together, these two companies always do their best to provide the best possible space for their valued tenants. In this way, a STATUS QUO is rented out and the property is constantly improved in the interests of the tenants.
